The graph below shows the average monthly change in the prices of three metals during 2014.
% change in price compared with previous month
Nickel's price fell by 3% in June compared with May.
Nickel's price fell from January to May.
The rate of increase gradually slowed down.
Copper | Nickel | Zinc |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan | +2% | +6% | +1% |
| Feb | +1% | +4% | +3% |
| Mar | +0.5% | +1% | +2% |
| Apr | +0.5% | +1% | +1.5% |
| May | -0.5% | +0.5% | +1% |
| Jun | -0.5% | -3% | -1% |
| Jul | +1% | -1% | -0.5% |
| Aug | +1% | -1% | -0.5% |
| Sep | +1% | -1% | -0.5% |
| Oct | +0.5% | -2% | -1% |
| Nov | +0.5% | +1% | +1.5% |
| Dec | +1.5% | +1% | +2% |
Nickel showed the greatest fluctuation.
Copper experienced relatively smaller changes throughout the year.
It started the year relatively weak but finished with the highest monthly increase.
Overview
- 镍波动最大;
- 铜相对稳定;
- 锌从年初相对较低的位置,到年底成为涨幅最高的金属;
Overall, nickel showed the greatest fluctuation, reaching both the highest and lowest points on the chart, while copper experienced relatively smaller changes. Zinc, meanwhile, moved from a relatively low position at the beginning of the year to the highest monthly increase in December. Another notable feature is that June was the only month when all three metals recorded negative changes.
Band 8
The line graph illustrates the average monthly percentage change in the prices of copper, nickel and zinc throughout 2014.
During the first five months, the three metals followed generally downward trends in terms of their monthly price changes, although their actual prices did not necessarily fall throughout this period. Nickel saw the sharpest decrease in its rate of increase, dropping from 6% in January to just 0.5% in May. Copper also declined from 2% to -0.5%, while zinc rose to a peak of 3% in February before falling gradually to 1% in May. In June, all three figures were negative, with nickel dropping particularly sharply to -3%.
The patterns became more varied during the second half of the year. Copper recovered quickly after June and remained positive, fluctuating between 0.5% and 1.5% from July to December. Nickel, by contrast, stayed at -1% from July to September and then fell further to -2% in October, before recovering to 1% in both November and December. Zinc followed a similar downward pattern until October, when it reached -1%, but then recovered strongly to 1.5% in November and 2% in December. As a result, zinc ended the year with the highest monthly increase among the three metals.
| the rate of increase | 增长率/增长速度 |
| show the greatest fluctuation | 波动最大 |
| reach a peak of...
| fall into negative territory | 跌入负值区间 |
| recover to... |
| remain at... |
| follow a similar pattern | 呈现类似走势 |
| end the year with...
the rate of increase
Nickel's rate of increase fell from 6% to 0.5%.
remain in negative territory
例如:
Nickel remained in negative territory from July to October.
percentage change
